Headcorn Parents,Teachers and Friends Association

WELCOME to future and exiting parents/carers at Headcorn School, we hope to give you a little insight to what the PTFA is and its role within the school.

WHAT/WHO IS THE PTFA?

The PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) is a registered charity and simply a group of parents, teachers and friends (some of who are parents of ex pupils) who wish to make our village school a place where our children’s education is fun, modern and inspiring.

You as parents/carers are part of the PTFA.

Please do not feel this is an elite group or one that will twist your arm into doing extra work. You may only be able to attend a couple of meetings during the year or none at all, but you could be that parent who comes up with a new idea. Your class will have a Class Representative, who can bring forward those ideas on your behalf. The meetings are a way of not only getting to know other parents, but gaining an understanding of how the teachers wish to enhance the school facilities in order to meet the changing needs of our children; therefore, the need for fundraising, involving community and the purpose of this committee.

In January 2017 a new committee was elected, they are:

Co-Chairs: Ebony Drewett and Jackie Chatfield - Both mums have been enthusiastic and reliable supporters of the PTFA with a long history at the school. Ebony works part time at TOSH and is a mum of three; two of her children are at Headcorn in years 1 and 5. Jackie is undertaking her first year as co-chair but has organised the Fireworks Display and Bonfire for several years; she is a mum of two with a child in year 4 and secondary school.

Vice Chair: Sarah Beecher – a long serving member of the committee, who works part-time and is mum to three boys in years 1, 4 and 5.

Treasurer: Karen Lamb – another long serving member of the committee who works part time and has 5 children; the older two both attended Headcorn school, three currently in Reception, years 2 and 5.

Secretary: Lizell Williams - One of the newer parents to the school. A full time mum, with a child in Year 2 and a preschooler.

Supported by Jack Keeler, Chair of Governors & Sarah Symonds, Head Teacher.

HOW DO WE RAISE FUNDS?

School based and Community Events are held throughout the year, these include: Summer Fete, a village Fireworks display, a Christmas Bazaar, an Easter Egg Hunt, school discos, cake sales, Non Uniform Days, Quiz and Bingo Nights.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Come along to the monthly PTFA meeting during which we discuss fundraising initiatives, plan future events and consider expenditure requests. We have started alternating the meeting time between afternoon and evening to accommodate busy lifestyles.

Becoming a Class Rep
as the name suggests: a representative for that class/year group. Class Reps are valuable communicators of any ideas, feedback or queries parents may have. They are an extension to the PTFA committee, they attend the monthly meeting and are key in coordinating any assistance needed that either you or a family member could offer to the school at events we host. Many existing reps set up a Facebook page to communicate quickly and effectively with fellow parents, others use a group email system or prefer to chat to parents while waiting at the gates/playground. If any of you are interested in becoming your Reception Class Rep or want any help in your role as a Class Rep, please contact us on the email below and we will happily assist and support you.
